Thanks to its high light transmission (95%) and good UV resistance, the ECTFE membrane can be optimally used as a facial film. The ECTFE membrane is in accordance with different standards, it is flame retardant, odorless, easy to clean and also acid and alkali resistant. The communication and view through the membrane is only slightly impaired and enables the usual exchange.

Looking more closely at this façade, one might think that energy production was in the foreground. But Taiyo Europe and OPVIUS wanted to shed light on the superficial architecture with this eye-catching façade. The different forms of the OPV modules have been integrated into the ETFE film in an artistic and modern way. So the aesthetics is in the foreground, but at the same time the advantage of the organic photovoltaic can be used for environmentally friendly energy production.

The entire façade covers an area of approx. 300 m². Distributed on the ETFE film, there are 1578 integrated OPV modules, which thus form an effective OPV area. The individual OPV modules are integrated in the color-printed, semitransparent ETFE film and thus create a harmonious and perfectly shaped façade. The necessary stability and steadfastness is ensured by a steel construction with a newly developed aluminum frame profile and special comb plates.

The foundation stone was laid by the architecture firm HENN Berlin, with the functional and creative planning of the façade. The project was realized through joint cooperation between OPVIUS and Taiyo Europe. Thanks to OPVIUS, the specialist in the field of organic photovoltaics, the OPV modules could be integrated, cabled and interconnected onto the printed ETFE film. Taiyo Europe, the specialist for high-quality membrane architecture and ETFE structures took over the implementation of the order, including planning, delivery and installation of the facade and the roof.

To sum up, this is a fascinating project with an innovative step towards the future. Because finally comes together with ETFE and OPV, what belongs together.

The construction of the iconic New Library building of the University of Cyprus is on its way. Signed by world Famous architect Jean Nouvel, its shape aims to replicate that of the nearby mountainous landscape. Taiyo Europe is currently executing the 4.800m2 membrane cladding of the entire hill-side of the Building.

Currently we are realizing the membrane façade of two new bioreactor gas towers in Wurzburg. The membrane enclosures where designed as air-supported PVC-PES membranes with a surface area of 3,400 m² in total.
